Yesterday Steven and I arrived in Kuglugtuk! It is plus 9 today and the sun has been shining since we landed. Very cool, we are enjoying the 24 hour sunlight. Steven went to work for an hour and a half about two hours after we got off the plane and today he is working a full day. Last night we were "camping" in our house because our "fast" cargo had not made it here yet. We ate K-dinner which I expertly made using the only pot we had on us....a frying pan...heeee, it all worked out though. I also went to the Co-Op to get some groceries and $90 later I had two small bags....today my job is to get more information on the food mail so we can get food sent in from Yellowknife, it is subsidized and you have more selection. Luckily our cargo did make it here this morning and we have some more supplies to work with. Our huge move will not arrive for 6-8 weeks so we don't have everything we sent. I still have not heard about any work. Tomorrow I will get started on my Criminal Records check so I will be able to substitute. School here starts I believe on Aug. 7th so I want to be good and ready. Our house is great, it's well used but big and warm. The grocery stores and CAP site as well as Steven's work are all within walking distance so we definately will not need a vehicle. This town is so much bigger then Wha Ti it has so many more houses and people. Everyone we have met has been very nice and welcoming....Steven has already been asked if he wants to buy some carvings, we figure we better wait until we have a better idea of what we are buying and what to look for. Well I think that's all for now, this CAP site is great, we don't have the internet yet, but knowing Steven it shouldn't be too long..... Take care everyone Paula, July 22nd 2009

  1. Glad to hear the two of you arrived safely. I just met up with my northern friends (from 20 years ago, from Ft. Simpson) and it felt like only yesterday we had all been together. Lots of fun and memories. Just looking at your photos brings memories back, lack of vegies/fruit, 24 hour days, and ooooohh, the mosquitoes. Enjoy your time in Coppermine, this is going to be a year to remember. Donna
